The Winds café in Yellow Springs, Ohio was not what I expected it to be. When I first heard of the café, I assumed that it was like just a little café; not a nice restaurant. So we go in, we had made reservations for nine of us. They have a nice little round table off to the side and out of the way waiting for us, despite how busy they were. The staff was very nice and could carry on a conversation and make us laugh. It wasn’t like other times when they just take your order and leave, he was very personable. We all order and then the salads come out; they were the most delectable looking salads that I have ever seen.
Once the food came, I was completely astounded. I wasn’t expecting it from a little café such as The Winds. I had ordered the Pork chop with cider dressing covering it. The first thing I noticed was the presentation. It was on a square plate with dressing placed on it in such a manner that it looked like art, and on top of the pork chop was little thin apple slices. I don’t normally like cooked fruit so I was skeptical about trying it, and I did and like I had thought I didn’t like it. Then, I tried an apple slice with the pork chop covered in the dressing, and there was such an immense explosion of flavors in my mouth. It was fantastic, it tasted sweet and bitter, it reminded me of what I thought fall would taste like.
After we had finished our meals the waiter came back, he read off the names of the desserts and we ordered. Once he brought them out we all exclaimed out loud how delicious we thought it looked. I had ordered cheesecake, and the flavor that day was cookies in cream which is my favorite flavor. Once again, the desserts looked like they had literally been made on a cooking show. It was in the middle of the plate, and had chocolate drizzle all over it and in intricate designs on the plate. And when you took a bite of it that is when the magic hits. The chocolate drizzle over the top added just the right amount of chocolate mixed with the cheesecake, it was absolutely fantastic.
The Winds café is in a little town that not many people have heard of. If you ever venture into the tiny town of Yellow Springs, Ohio I would most definitely suggest you eat at this café. Once you do, you will be very pleased with your choice and will walk away with a full stomach and a warm spot in your heart.
